Life is Sacred and a couple short films and a note on future essays
Hi Everyone,
I like Substack and will continue using it, but I have a little problem, which is that I post both essays and announcements and more personal reflections all on the same place. So this year I’m going to put essays on my website, and merely announce them here. That way, those who are interested only in those will see clearly from the email title “New essay:…. “ that it is an essay. The actual essays will then also be much easier to find, all together on my website.
OK, that said, I want to share an upcoming live (online) event tomorrow, an interview/program called “What is the Next Story.” The interviewer will be David Lorimer of the Scientific and Medical Network, someone I admire as a deep and fiercely independent thinker. Register here (bottom of page).
I also want to share a marvelous musical composition Life Is Sacred from the "Freedom In Performance" concert. The composer is Sam Perkin and the violist is Patrick Rafter.
Finally, here is a short film created by Matthew Freidell from some words I spoke, called To Be at Home in the World. And here also is a Portuguese language version.
I encourage you to keep posting the essays on Substack. It is much easier to use, and has nice features like a dedicated app that allows for automatic audio readings of the essays. Posting on Substack will also allow the vibrant comment section to continue. I’d also be willing to bet that you will get fewer readers by merely linking to external essays here rather than posting them in full. Why not simply post on both your website and Substack?
Are you aware that you can create headings in Substack? This means you can have several different approaches on Substack and keep them a little bit separate. Once each of your articles is identified under a heading, you can offer your readers the option to receive only notifications for that heading. I am doing one category of simple body hacks which I am guessing few will want, so everyone else can opt out. I have a heading for 5G and will post more as as I get further into that. Again, some will want to opt out of those.
I am experimenting with how to use the feature currently and I see that few are using it yet. It will only become useful as readers learn to use it, and i am not sure that will happen.
My purely selfish response to your proposal, you have actually satisfied. Currently I get almost all of my articles via the Inbox feature in Substack. So as long as you post an information post, with a link straight out to your website, you will satisfy my need to have everything laid out for me on a single front end.
