On News-fasting
Here is a video on “news fasting”; that is, fasting from the news. It is part of the Unlearning course, and since it stands pretty well on its own, I thought I would share more broadly.
In case you were wondering why I haven’t published much recently, I am taking some time to research and think deeply about artificial intelligence. I think it is the most significant information technology since the printing press. Its impact will be comparable to that invention, for good and/or for ill. Since we are in AI’s formative stages, it has become important to me to inject some observations into the conversation sooner rather than later. I will be posting several essays on the topic in the next 2-3 months. I’m writing one now, and debating whether to try to say everything I want to say in one essay, or divide it into pieces. Substack isn’t quite the right medium for long-form writing, but here I am.

I vote for breaking it up into smaller pieces. Because of the thought provoking depth and length of your pieces, I often stop reading before I get to the end because I simply cannot absorb anymore.
