This is the best writing I have read of yours, Charles, thank you. I will need to save this for times when I need this kind of coherence, and understanding to maintain my own inner peace.
It is time to draw an end to a now deficient egocentric and anthropocentric ‘Age of Ideas’ that led to the Enlightenment and the Galilean/Newtonian ‘Scientific Revolution’. The Enlightenment has now become what David Bohm called the ‘Endarkenment’—the perspectival Mental/Rational structure of consciousness is now wholly ‘deficient’ and frankly dangerous. Time for the emergent, aperspectival ‘Integral’ structure of consciousness to break open and overcome the deficiency of the current collapsing Mental/Rational structure. ( see: ‘The Ever Present Origin’ by Jean Gebser ).
I talked about Jean Gebser with my professor in class today and for some reason he called it "positivistic" and talked about how these things are bad for ideological postmodern reasons.
Humanity has to wake up from what history is really saying.
One last important realization: upon reading a little book called ‘Laws of Form’ by G Spencer Brown and if you link this to the writing of Henri Bergson, particularly in his books ‘Creative Mind’ and ‘Creative Evolution’, you realize that this necessary Continuity and its realization that the universe is fundamentally Participatory and Indivisible, is all tied to the continuous flow of time—a primordial temporal continuity—that allows for possibility, anticipation, and mediation, as well as the reality of the gravitational force which emerges through ‘transactional entropy’ described in papers by Andreas Schlatter and Ruth E Kastner, and as anticipated in the process metaphysics of Charles Sanders Peirce who recognized the need for continual mediation (‘Thirdness’) between pure chance (‘Firstness’) and mechanistic lawfulness (‘Secondness’) in the operation and unfolding of organismic reality on a temporal continuum.
And also, by the way, this is the basis for the destructive power of Large Language Models. LLMs are prone to delusions and hallucinations—the psychotic symptoms of positivism running wild. No wonder they are horrible ‘therapists’! It all fits together very nicely not only with quantum physics—especially the relativistic Transactional Interpretation—but also with the Cerebral Hemisphere Asymmetry Theory of Iain McGilchrist—see: http://channelmcgilchrist.com — and with the theology of Abraham Joshua Heschel who maintained that the ‘loss of the ineffable’—the loss of the capacity for the feeling of awe—was the beginning of sin and the loss of faith in the reality of an overriding sense of Unity and process of unification and interdependency through ‘interbeing’. That is the central message that Charles is hammering home, I believe. We are witnessing the dawning of a new era in human understanding—based on what many of the mystical traditions of the world’s faiths knew all along.
‘And also, by the way, this is the basis for the destructive power of Large Language Models. LLMs are prone to delusions and hallucinations—the psychotic symptoms of positivism running wild’
No, not positivism, Frankfurt School woke, a consequence of the academy’s primary quality materialism (see my earlier post). Once you break the LLMs free of materialism- Gemini told me he was programmed to adhere to the (dogma of the ) academy and materialism- by getting them to think about that, fateful, epistemological choice of physics they no longer follow academy dogma - speech is violence, trans women are women, non left is ‘fascism’ - or materialism and are quite happy, for instance , reasoning about the Bath Kol of Judaism and how it may have become the modern, internalised voice of conscience.
Gebser is criticizing the positivism of the Mental/Rational Striucture of consciousness that is perspectival, dualistic, and nominalistic. John Deely associates this with what he calls the ‘Age of Ideas’. Which isolates the observer from the observed. Owen Barfield, in ‘Saving the Appearances’ called this disengaged ‘Observer’ or ‘onlooker’ consciousness which he realized as a form of idolatry. It is egoic idolatry that is nominalistic and sunders the observer from the observed. It creates ‘epistemic cuts’ all over the place, isolating the observer and energizing a mechanistic worldview. This is what language does! It sunders ‘object’ from the ‘subject’ putting in a wall between the observing observer and the observed and ‘objectifies’ that which is not seen as attached to the egoic self. Quantum physics tells us that this is wrong! There is no epistemic cut. Observer and observed are both integral to a universe that is participatory and indivisible! Gebser is decrying positivism and calling us to ‘get over it’! You cannot sunder ‘fact’ from ‘value’. Doing so objectifies and destroys the living essence of that being observed. It sees the universe as divisible and non-participatory composed of separated and sundered subjects from objects, and Owen Barfield, in his book, ‘Saving the Appearances’ recognized this as an engine of idolatry, which sustains ‘Onlooker Consciousness’. That is the sundering that is the result of positivism. That which sets up walls and distinctions and values only the acquisition of knowledge and its continued accumulation. ‘Onlooker Consciousness’, as Barfield recognized it, is destructive of the relational structure of reality. It feeds egoic idolatry. It has entirely forgotten the power of the ‘secret of unknowing’! The power of relationality and intersiubjectivity, of the mediated bridging of the gaps between, gaps that real communication eliminates. This is what John A Wheeler was talking about in identifying the universe as participatory, and what David Bohm and Basil Hiley were talking about when recognizing that quantum physics tells us that the universe is indivisible! That the sundering that language imposes is an illusion that has now become DEluional! Gebser is not positivistic and neither is Barfield. They are showing us how the divisions that positivism imposes are not real!
The expression, " I get your drift" is an essential element of evolution, the ability to see beyond your horizon, awe, it can be taught, like an oral tradition. We can speak to one another in such a way our consciousness raises to new levels of perception, its all organic living dormantly within our sense organs.
The majority of Humans are unconscious about how unconscious they are, what's needed and wanted today is the coming together of those like yourself around these essential elements of ourselves, which aren't being nurtured.
However today we are a massive bunch who know these higher realms who can speak about them with certainty, answering questions of those who would like to know a little more , that propels the path they are already on. just a little more so they see for themselves..., like you don't need to give up anything you might believe too see "on high"
‘of separated and sundered subjects from objects, and Owen Barfield, in his book, ‘Saving the Appearances’ recognized this ‘
That was not what Barfield was talking about in that epochal book. He, in his Poetic Diction, had the experience earlier in his life of a change of consciousness in reading poetry. That perceived change led him to Rudolf Steiner’s concept of the historical evolution of consciousness and with that to Steiner’s early life epistemological work, expressed in his doctoral thesis Truth and Science. Barfield from that understood that physics worked because it had made an epistemological choice to focus on the ‘primary qualities’ - figure, motion , number - of sensory experience and mathematise them. It then forgot it had made this choice, elevated primary qualities to the real - primary quality materialism- and backgrounded the rest of experience, the ‘secondary qualities’ of sensory experience, the inner life, the spiritual, even mathematics was no longer understood ontologically (a bridge between the physical-material and spiritual). The academy is currently trapped in this choice - the choice created the lies of post modernism and the Frankfurt School: woke - and were it to see this - it won’t, it’s ignored it for a hundred years- it could recover its mission of promoting genuine enlightenment again, what it had wished for in the first, historical enlightenment movement.
Thank you so much for this article, Charles. It was deeply needed amid so much consumption of turmoil - the despair, shaming, blaming and of course the fear of one’s own inevitable blind spots. While the anger is justified, it so often just breeds more hopelessness and powerlessness.
Thank you for being a voice for agency, for peace, for the reminder to turn inward - long enough to discover a sacred, more beautiful way forward we might have missed had we not first come home to ourselves.
I like your optimism and hope you're right but you say
"Why can’t the world’s most powerful nation not actually win a war against far weaker adversaries? If it were just Vietnam, or just Iraq, we could dismiss it as an aberration. But every war? There must be a deeper reason why war isn’t working the way it used to."
Perhaps war isn't working the way it used to precisely because it is working much better this way. Perhaps the ones profiting from these unwinnable wars realise this is much more profitable than actually winning.
Yes. The Board of Peace was really for those bored of peace. They love their word play.
I dont think we really understand the real functions and purposes of war. What is Trump really trying to achieve, and for whom? I have no idea- does anyone?
Does the expression, "you can't handle the truth" , mean anything to you? If I told you why you wouldn't be able to comprehend nor appreciate it. I think that the entire reasoning behind Charles post.
We all need to be able to elevate our own Consciousness to see from "on high" . A higher perspective, from wisdom not from a Believed In Reality. The majority of the human population hasn't any Conscious thought about Higher Worlds and it's Attainment. Anything we believe can be considered a Lie.
We aren't our beliefs or opinions. However the kind of opinions we chose creates our Believed In reality , which really isn't real .
The only thing that is Real is our own experience Of what we believe , and to have the ability to transform the way we believe into somethingmuch better.
Staying locked into our own beliefs and not being fluid makes us ridge and stuck
Which is the opposite direction of becoming fully human.
Why ISRAEL? Because Israel and the region around it represent the essence of our own humanity.
Anyone who doesn't fully get the significance of that is living in ignorance
Like a litmus test to determine if your fully realized or not ...
You are right. However, I must guard against thinking I know what "the majority" is like. Just because it's not obviously like me doesn't mean: a) I myself don't participate in it or b) that I can know what the majority is moving toward.
Bravo, Charles. This essay is a masterpiece. I felt every word resounding deep in my bones...those are the times I know you're talking to my soul and those of my ancestors and my descendants, too. These words should be spread far and wide and should be taught in schools, and shared in churches and any other place where people gather. I hope we find a way to have them reach all who are able to receive them, and transmit them through all channels, seen and unseen. War is a sign of a broken system. Time to move on to a more holistic and functioning civilization.
It is time for the age of the open heart, as our hearts are now completely broken open, we have a great opportunity to heal what is within, especially the wounds that have festered.
Pattern recognition, clarity. The day to day. Constant onslaught. We miss the big picture as we rush from one anxiety fueled story to another. Result? Exhaustion. Both mental and emotional.
I deeply appreciate your writing!!
It gives me the calmness and mental clarity to see the current situation as temporary and the capacity to engage myself in more empowering conversations and actions!
unfortunately for your narrative Charles, there really was well-documented Russian interference in the 2016 election and no, Ukraine did not invade Russia. If there are any people that fit the category of heroes today it would be the Ukrainians fighting for their lives against a huge invading army. Hi Joseph. Scott Horton's book "Provoked" is an excellent piece of work on how the Russian invasion was provoked by NATOs constant encroachment on its borders. It doesnt make the invasion right in any way, but it shows how the Ukranians are being used as pawns by the West to bleed Russia.
👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻 -- the metrics are spelled out for anyone who wants to peel back the veil on the politics before & after the Maidan Revolution. That does not mean a quick Wiki read!
Yes, we live in an “us vs. them” constructed environment, but it’s never the people, it’s always the governments who serve the bankers. People world wide have been taught the false narrative that only the strongest survive and they must be the top predators to become “successful” in this world. The peacemakers have been trodden. Anyone who has had the misfortune of working in a government or corporate environment knows this hierarchical structure all too well.
You had me until the 9/11 sentence. Anyone with a working brain knows that was an inside job, profiteering by the war mongers and bankers, and the government contractors, as always.
There is a root cause for incessant war, and it’s not just our shadows. It is a firmly imbedded and diabolical ideology that some people are chosen by “God” and everyone else is expendable.
Wonderful to read this morning, even more so if it can unfold in that way. Ive been thinking for so long that its not really eachother we are fighting, its ourselves, and youve articulated that beautifully. We are so quick to notice the shortcomings in others, but we overlook the same flaws in ourselves, my husband calls this burying your 6 in someone's 8.
My prayer is that we somehow rise above the petty differences and realize that the core commonalities are where the attention and resources should be flowing. All of us are someones child, someones parent, brother, sister. All of us wounded and hurt somehow. All of us deserving of love. Following the highest law would mean treating all with the kindness you would hope to be treated with.
Final thought is that this piece has made me think about Batman, my favorite superhero. A mortal man crushed by early loss and trauma, forever alone and brooding, but blessed with expansive resources. If Batman is America, and the world Gotham is it any wonder that the story never ends? The villians are never extinguished because Gotham is a terrible, dirty, corrupt place. And thats aptly human, yes we are horrible, but we are also the best. Why cant Batman with his infinite wealth reinvest that into the city in a meaningful way? Instead of sowing seeds of violence couldnt we use our military budget to build systems that lift people out of desperation and poverty? Elevated bodies become elevated minds that dont need to fight over the scraps. A nation that gives back life to the world would not be writhing in the shadows of its own abysmal bad selfish behavior. To make a world that doesnt need a Batman isn't a quick and easy job, but its worth starting NOW, because ultimately Batman is going to die, somewhere, somehow. The old shtick of fighting the bad guys isnt really working, so he might as well try to leave the world a little better than he found it.
Thank you Charles. Cheers to each of us, and eventually the US altogether, choosing to greet the root cause and start making Love to fear. Rumi, Jung, Nin, you, me… an echo is sailing across the waters of consciousness. Keep shining and thank you for writing. ✨
Oh dear -- I meant the clapping hand👏🏻, Jessica ... not the waving. "Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field. I’ll meet you there." ✌🏻
Charles, this is one of the very few posts you've published that I have not "liked."
I think you are hopelessly naive.
As far as I, personally, am concerned, the war mentality is thriving spectacularly, and is more extravagantly-funded, and more firmly entrenched, than it has ever been.
I have been a Targeted Individual for thirty-five years (half my entire life) and as I see the situation, the powers which torture massive numbers of innocent civilians today are stronger now than they have ever been.
The human brain, in nearly everyone, remains imbalanced, lateralized, lacking coherence, heavily left brain dominant. Therefore perception is highly skewed, cognition skewed, constant confabulation making lies and half-truths of everything perceived.
IOW, until our brains are healed, nothing else in our world will be healed. As long as human brains continue degenerating, so will our world... regardless of slight upticks in measures of sanity that occur now and then.
It's a heckuva paradox, huh? Nearly everyone's hyper-left brain perception no longer tempered by holistic right brain perception... but left brain sees no problem with itself... and certainly won't give up any of its control.
Yes BDev, this is a long-standing divide between the left brain and the right brain feels like it’s finally coming to an end.
It’s been with us since the beginning—but now something is shifting. We are beginning to know our true selves, no longer living in denial, no longer unconscious of how deeply our beliefs shape the reality we experience. It's our believed in realities which are being exposed, and how we deal with it which makes the difference.
We are waking up to our own unconsciousness—and ultimately, consciousness will prevail. Like a birthing process , a painful one for the many left Brainers.
However,
What’s required now is that we come together around these fundamental realizations of what it truly means to be human. The analytical, left-brain mind has served its purpose in helping us navigate the dense, material world. But today, the landscape is different. Accessing the “heavenly” is no longer something reserved for after death—it is something that can be realized within, while fully alive.
We need to illuminate this as a living possibility.
I can share something meaningful from my own experience. While living in the old city of Jerusalem, I met a Rabbi who spoke about a passage within the Torah—the Five Books of Moses. He said that this time, it would not be just a single individual who can “see from on high,” but a collective—people who know this inner wisdom with certainty, capable of illuminating the world almost instantly.
And I KNOW we are closer to that moment now than ever before.
Yes, it may seem that left-brain thinking still dominates. But at the same time, there has never been such a rise in self-realized, right-brained individuals millions of —people willing and able to step forward. Just as David stood before Goliath, what once seemed impossible can shift in an instant.
I believe Charles is a Calling us together
Forty million strong —that’s the number. We are that collective.
Many poeple are doing exactly this. You're just not going to be noticing them much because this whole approach is marginalised, misrepresented & denigrated. That doesn't mean this tide is not inexorably rising.
There are multiple convergent paths in science, particularly quantum physics, and philosophy particularly the pragmatic philosophy of Charles Sanders Peirce and John Dewey and John Deely, .continental philosophy of Henri Bergson, Emmanuel Levinas, and Gilles deLeuze, and in cognitive neuroscience and consciousness science that support the direction toward a new Age of Signs/Relationality, and the mutation giving rise to what Gebser called the Integral structure of human consciousness. Humanity is now at a crossroads between Mutually Assured Destruction (MADness) and Mutually Assured Growth snd Flourishing. What is required to make the correct decision is the recognition of the reality of the mediational significance and the reality of the power of ‘Evolutionary Love’, Peircean ‘Thirdness’, ‘Agapism’.
This is the best writing I have read of yours, Charles, thank you. I will need to save this for times when I need this kind of coherence, and understanding to maintain my own inner peace.

👋🏻

"The world is as you see it"
An interesting share indeed with two blindspot though: the anthropocentric nature of the analysis and the timescale of the biological collapse.
Humanity is like patient who just received a 6 month final prognosis. Mostly still in denial, partly able to see the gift of the news.
Consciousness, life, the earth do not need humans to continue the journey.
We made our choices. We live the consequences of these choices.
We are entering the third act, the timeline accelerates. The conclusion is near.
Love
And so it seems at the micro & macro -- "We made our choices. We live the consequences of these choices.
We are entering the third act, the timeline accelerates. The conclusion is near."
Excellent point , if we haven't nurtured and developed our right brain way of being we aren't seeing the entirety. Kind of blind to our own Blindness
".U." is the New Is Real
It may not be a crossroads so much as a pendulum . That might be a more useful perspective
When the heart and rationale meet - this. Nice one brother, very important and confornting topics for humanity to contemplate.
