I understand that you are hurting right now Charles and I think that in general your heart is in the right place, but for someone who speaks so often about non-duality and the virtue of seeing beyond the us vs. them, you are very clearly choosing a side - the side in which Trump, the US, and Israel are the bad guys. Worth thinking about how the internet, social media, even the very architecture of computing itself, draws us into binary thinking, and we all have to immediately choose sides in whatever conflict is dominating the algorithms.
What is happening in the Middle East is terrible, tragic, devastating. Do I think that the US is doing the right thing by starting this current conflict, and how the administration has handled their media approach is laudable? I'm uncertain on the first question and I lean toward no on the second. Do I think that an Iran whose very charter is based on the destruction of the US and Israel having a nuclear weapon is acceptable, and whose government has reportedly massacred thousands of its own citizens should be allowed to continue doing what it has been? Also I lean toward no. So these sentiments are all in contradiction. The best thing to do is to recognize that the situation is beyond my ability to make clear moral judgments on. I have enough going on in my own life that is difficult to figure out, to spend all my time worrying about what's happening across the world. That may sound callous, but many spiritual teachers have recognized that being present where we are is the first key to wisdom. Our screens have warped our ability to be present, and they encourage us to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, convincing us that we all have to pronounce who is good and who is bad, locking us in with fear, pain, anxiety, etc. - all the emotions that keep us glued to our screens. If we are worried about evil and dehumanization in the world we should seek it out at their source, that is in our own hearts. The process of and healing may take our entire lives. But it won't happen when we are all glued to our screens. Time for me to touch some grass.

Taking a moment to sit with this information… watching these videos literally made me feel sick. Where do we go from here? How can we turn it around when the powers that be seem so unhinged and unrestrained? I understand the value and power of conscious everyday choices but we seem to be at a time-sensitive crossroad of monumental importance. Will our efforts be enough?

Should the nation which comitted the most war crimes in human history have nuclear weapons? The only nation that ever dropped a nuclear bomb? I guess no. Should this nation be allowed to judge about other nations and their governments and to underline their judgement with bombs? Definitely not. Iran is not ruled by a terror regime. This is propaganda. But its a pain for a big part of the Iranian people. Do the United States together with their Israeli allies have the right to change this - using violence or not? No. It is the responsibility of a souvereign state and its people to change this. The sayings of "they are not strong enough" or "they need help" are born out of an imperialist mindset.

He used remarkably similar phrasing to describe the danger Donald Trump posed to democracy just days after the 2016 election. Famous for leading a standing ovation for Mahmoud Abbas in the European Parliament in 2016 after Abbas delivered his standard antisemitic fare, repetition from his 1980’s doctoral thesis and a spicy dose of blood libel about how the Israelis were poisoning the wells of Palestinians. You would no doubt also have risen to your feet.

Taking a moment to sit with this information… watching these videos literally made me feel sick. Where do we go from here? How can we turn it around when the powers that be seem so unhinged and unrestrained? I understand the value and power of conscious everyday choices but we seem to be at a time-sensitive crossroad of monumental importance. Will our efforts be enough?

I agree that the presentation of what is going on is "puke inducing". That said, Charles, you have been sucked into believing much of the anti-Trump propaganda. You present your ASSUMPTION that the school girls were simply at school, and not that they were being used as human shields for underground bunkers. I hate to say that, because I hate the reality of war. The underdogs (those in the weaker military position) are basically forced to use human shields to hide behind, knowing that public opinion will flip in their favour when and if those human shields are cut down.
I do not have enough evidence that this particular "school girl" event was a human shield issue, but I can say that using human shields is an extremely common modus operandi of regimes all over the globe. That said, America does its fair share of deception also in the form of false flag operations, etc.
It is a false dichotomy to assume that because America uses "nasty" tactics proves that America is bad and the Iranian radical Islamist regime is good.

I believe more and more that the crossroads we are at leads us to making a choice. One is a world of continued war, destruction, fear, hate and control. The other is a world of love, peace, healing and self dominion. Consciously choosing what you really believe and responding to that, will create that world for you. We walk away and a veil is lifted that reveals the truth of who we really are. Not as easy as it sounds because you don't get to vascillate back and forth. I think I'm getting really close to seeing a new world all together. We can't wait for others to follow, to see the light. . .it's not our purpose to save everyone, we can try. . .but ultimately it's everyone's purpose to awaken to themselves. This is a spiritual exercise I believe most of us would find extremely challenging, and perhaps not worth the effort. Many would label it as folly. But the spiritual path is designed precisely to bring our best to the worst, to look at those things that offend our moral sensibilities most and recast them in a human light. Who is brave enough to undertake this task? Very few I would guess. I'm not sure I am. Until you recognize the hate and darkness that lies within your own soul, and make efforts to move the line in the direction that erases it, as much as possible, can we say we really have the right to judge those who have utterly failed to make any effort at all?
