In my last post I asked about the “missing time” episode in which the part about UFOs disappeared from my “State of the World address.” I wanted to figure out whether that was because of a glitch in the streaming software, or if it had been edited out later. I thought asking the people who had been watching it on YouTube would resolve the matter.
Instead of resolution, I am more mystified than ever. You see, quite a number of people report seeing me '“freeze” for those 55 seconds in real time on Youtube. Also, quite a number of people distinctly remember viewing the “missing” content on the very same Youtube broadcast.
Is reality bifurcating, or what? I can not but laugh.
If both these realities coexist, then too, the five interpretations of the original event also coexist. The modern mind, steeped in Cartesian objectivity, thinks that underneath our beliefs and perceptions there is a “fact of the matter.” Either there are, or there are not, nefarious censors messing with my Youtube content. But that certainty is itself a vestige of an old story, in which human beings can become the Cartesian “lords and possessors of nature” by pinning it down through empirical inquiry and the Scientific Method.
What part of our consciousness resonates with the reality of nefarious censors? Is there even a kind of perverse gratification in that, that wants it to be true? Will that realit recede as that part of us is healed? I do not much resonate with it, but I recognize that part of me that hopes it is true. Then I can relax into helpless victimhood. It lands like an offer to abdicate my agency. Right now though, I prefer to relegate that narrative to the precincts of humor, and in so doing marginalize the censors’ very existence. Dear censors, no offense intended, but I don’t think you exist. I am not in the reality in which you exist. Which is NOT to deny the extensive censorship, propaganda, and information warfare currently underway in this country and beyond to prop up establishment narratives and advance a totalitarian anti-life agenda. That is quite real to me. To deny the information that has come out in the Twitter Files, the House Weaponization of Goverment Committee, etc. is delusional. And that information is as a tiny surface lesion revealing a systemic cancer in the body politic. My head is not in the sand. Yet, let us not, in our minds, grant these totalitarian forces more power than they actually have. Our power to resist them lies not just in conventional polical action. It lies not just in speaking out. It also requires for its success a kind of psychic resistance, an activation of our agency and choice as to which reality we will inhabit.
Information warfare, narrative warfare, is not just about systems of symbol and meaning. It also engages emotional and psychic forces. A narrative is an offering not just of what to believe, but of who to be. When I speak truly from an authentic inner confidence and good humor, and say, No, this wasn’t the Illuminati sabotaging my video, No, it was a syncrhonicity-generated glitch marking the entrance to a significant body of information, I enter the reality in which that is so, and thereby deal the Illuminati, who actually did attempt that, a defeat.
I hope the deliciousness of that paradox is not lost on the reader. That is really what this information war / non-war is about. Our beliefs about the world, about what is real, are powerful. We cannot simply invent new beliefs, a la The Secret, and impose them upon a self that carries trauma and programs imcompatible with them, for then those beliefs will be rejected by one’s psychic immune system, like an organ transplant from an incompatible donor. But we can survey the menu of beliefs and choose the one that resonates with the best part of us that is ready to come alive.
That is why I say, let us not in our minds give totalitarian forces more power than they really have. When we do so, we enter the reality in which our fears are true. When we refuse to beieve the offering of the narrative that elevates them, we diminish them not only in our perception but in the reality we experience.
Judging from the comments, some of us are quite sure somebody was deliberately messing with my video. Others are quite sure the opposite. Both positions are alive in me. Which shall I choose? I can honestly choose not to believe it. Without denial, I can banish these shadowy forces who are so competent and efficient and have so much time on their hands that they deign to remove 55 seconds of video from the broadcast of a rather obscure countercultural philosopher, to the outskirts of reality.
Not to abandon the paradox: if any of these non-existent totalitarian control agents, who did not and could not mess with my video, seeing as how they don’t exist, would like to explain to me why they messed with my truly inoccuous video, I would be happy to know. Just because we occupy different branches of this bifurcating reality doesn’t mean we can’t be friends in the place outside it.
Let the seriousness, or lack thereof, of that offer remain ambiguous. The responses to my address and the last post have been super helpful to orient me toward what this series means to be. Meta-political commentary, as one person put it, that weaves consensus reality together with its surrounding shadows, variants, and alternatives.
The collective mind of our society has been shattered into a million shards. People occupy completely separate realities. It is time to start piecing ourselves back together again. My intention is to help establish an island of coherency, a seed crystal of a new stpry-of-the-world and story-of-the-people. I won’t, or can’t, say what that story is. All I know is that the cohering force is called love.
Dear Charles,
I have been reading/and listening to you for a long while but I just recently upgraded to paid. This commitment on my part has had a subtle impact on the way I experience your shares. I feel more in my integrity, I guess. It just feels better, more open, connected. A move toward how I want to be in the world. I appreciate how you chose to share all your content with payers and non-payers alike, in the spirit of the gift. It has enabled me to join you there. Thank you!
The internet--and YouTube--is perhaps more complicated in its structure and operation than most of us reading (or writing) here imagine it to be. It's quite possible that the live-streaming of the video followed differing pathways through the labyrinth (maze?) of distribution processes, such that some people experienced a disruption in the broadcast which others did not. That is, the glitch may have been "local" to one portion of the larger distribution system.
I'll also add that some people may have very imperfect memories of the event ... may have been distracted when the 55 seconds elapsed in black silence, or whatever it was. They may not have recalled the whole of the video because someone brought them a cheese sandwich and engaged them in a brief conversation. Or the doorbell rang, or the phone.
I tend to go with the most likely or plausible of explanations, first, knowing that very often I'll never know what actually happened or why.
But I've experienced things which were not possible on accordance with the mainstream worldview, mainstream science, etc. So I know that very weird things do indeed happen, and things which I have no idea how to explain!
